Sancheong Seonwon

Sancheong Seonwon is a meditation center established by Master Baekbong. Located at the foot of Gukgoksan Mountain, a ridge of Jirisan Mountain, it is a bright and tranquil retreat. All-night meditation retreats are held every Saturday, seven-day retreats in summer and winter, and three-day retreats in spring and fall, all under the guidance of Master Cheongbong, Jeon Geun-hong.

Upon entering the Seonwon, you will find the tomb of the Baekbong to the right of the road. This is the end of the forest walking path.

Just above the tomb of the Master lies the Stupa of Vimalakirti. The construction of the Stupa was inspired by the Master's encounter with the Vimalakirti Sutra in 1968, and its completion ceremony took place the day before his death (August 1, 1985). The Stupa was built by students who dug up stones from the Seonwon's garden and fields, piling them up, creating a truly unassuming appearance. The master said, "The place, devoid of color and sound, built this Stupa. One must be able to hear the silent sermons it conveys.".
